SEPTEMBER

What’s up everyone! My name is September Davis, 22 year old marketing Adsales assistant at VIBE magazine.  I’ve been at VIBE fresh off the graduation boat for a little over a year including the intern bid.  My mother always tells me I love to run before I walk and that goes with everything I do, especially work.  No matter what accomplishment I make or step up I take, all I see is the bigger and better waiting for me.  At times that is my downfall because I’m so hungry I never take the time to stop and admire myself for the hard work I’ve put in.

Currently I am the youngest employee at VIBE.  To some that is an accomplishment in itself, and I’m so proud of that but more than anything what that means to me is that I have a lot of peoples’ jobs to take.  I am the assistant to both the Publisher and Associate Publisher handling everything from expenses to actually creating and writing 3 pages in the magazine itself.  With everything I am currently responsible for there is still so much on my radar left to achieve.  There is so much to do I find myself trying to find the balance between taking life by the reigns and simply living.  I have time…but not that much.  That aside I’m going to keep running.  I’ll walk when my legs get tired.  Much respect to those who can keep up.

[Fresh Bread Daily] Realisticly Speaking

“Nothing’s realistic, until someone makes it so.”-Mr.Muhammad

Now that America is in an economic slump, I’ve been hearing a lot about being realistic. Like someone said to me yesterday “I can’t do this, I don’t have the money maybe I should be realistic.” If we wait on realistic we’ll never accomplish anything. We’d all be sitting around waiting somebody to make things real for us. Don’t let the news, the recession, or the recessionist stop you from getting to your goals.

When I grow up, I want to be Grace Jones.  Towering, free, beautiful, admired and longed for.  I’m want her spirit and soul to be mine.  She reminds me of my mother and her mother and her sisters – even the one who died before I was born.  Grace Jones is the sum of the women on my mother’s side of my family, and I can’t wait to join their ranks.

[Fresh Bread Daily] Just You & Your Sacrifation

“If you can survive here[in the ring] you can survive in the real world, ’cause ain’t nobody in this fight but you.” -Old School, Kronk Gym Detroit

While visiting Kronk Boxing Gym in Detroit, we came across the wisdom of Old School- A 60 something year old boxer. He was the loudest and most energetic fighter in the Gym. Then the cameras came on and he kicked it into high gear, giving  us some game, and even made up a word along the way. Watch the video…
